OTHL LEAGUE HISTORY
The Old Time Hockey League(OTHL), was founded in 1942 by Matt George, who owns the Brooklyn Americans, along with six teams, Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maples.
The Montreal Maroons joined the league for the 1945-46 season as an expansion team, this giving the OTHL eight teams. The league then created two conferences, American and Canadian.
Brooklyn Americans relocate to Hamilton and rebrand as the Tigers.
Philadelphia Quakers and Ottawa Senators enter the league in 1950-51 season. Montreal Maroons relocated to Buffalo and rebrand as the Sabres. Philadelphia Quakers relocate to Minnesota and rebrand as the North Stars. Hamilton Tigers relocate to the Vancouver and rebrand as the Canucks.
In 1960, four expansion teams were added to the league - Cleveland Barons, Atlanta Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Los Angeles Kings. At the end of their first season, the Flames would relocate to Kansas City, while the Kings would relocate to the Atlanta. The Penguins would later relocate to California and rebrand as the Seals.
In 1962, the league would add two more teams - St. Louis Blues and California Golden Seals. At the end of the season, the Seals would rebrand as the Kings and relocate to Los Angeles.
